Approaches to Emissions Reduction

As an industry, freight is seen by many in the broader community as being detrimental to the environment. However, those working within the freight industry realise that due to its massive scale of emissions, the total effect of even small improvements in freight efficiency dwarf the potential of other environmental initiatives.

EcoStation seeks to reduce freight emissions with a number of initiatives across the entire supply chain, not just the truck.

Included in EcoStation's approach to reducing emissions are:

  • Driver training and education
  • Alternative drivetrains and fuel types
  • Improved tyres and aerodynamics
  • Improved auditing systems that allow operators to test scenarios for changes to the fleet
  • Changes to traffic infrastructure and road management
  • Supply chain improvements
  • Bringing the industry together to share the knowledge about emissions reduction

The freight sector has an important opportunity to show the community that it can take leadership and deliver significant environmental results. With participation in EcoStation, the benefits of reducing emissions, fuel use and costs can be shared.
